Yes Hayley,
The word SUPPORT means something different to each individual.
I think the key maybe to be up front and honest from the start with your partner.
To let them know your needs and expectations in living your life with D.
Then ask them what their needs are in the relationship.
I found holding back some of my needs for years because “I was in control of my own D” is not good idea. Letting them into your life in full (D being the major part of it) may be the best way for them to understand what some your needs are in the relationship.
It may be overwhelming to unload all at once, but as the relationship grows in a positive way it becomes easier to discuss.
Letting them in on some of your strengths and fears will only make it stronger.
It took me a long time to understand that I am in control of myself, but that others close to me want to be able to help. Learning and being able to explain how or what I may need.
Denial is not my problem, but asking for help was what I was most afraid of.
That was one of my problems, some of my family and friends have only known me as a stronger self-caring woman. If I couldn’t do something it could not be done!
Life changes as we all do in time, and I know now that with some complications now I must be open to other for help at times. It was a hard step to take but if they truly care for you they will be there by your side.
I know I have made mistakes over the years, but once again life is forever changing and we must adapt to the changes the best we can.
I am not trying to preach, I just wanted to let you in on one of my experiences with a relationship.
Good Luck, I wish you the BEST!

May I ask a serious question? Has Your D ever been seriously challenged by the stress of your personal relationship or marriage? You can PM me if you would like to.
