Living out Loud with Diabetes

A Positive, Fun, Informative Community for Diabetics and those that Love 'em

I find that if I want to lose weight, about 50 carbs a meal will help take off the pounds. I am usually consuming 60 to 70 per meal though.
What about you,.....whats your goal or what have you seen work the best for you?

So I do about 60-80g/day, makes it much easier to control my postprandial spikes. I am using new way to get glycemic control -- using muscle training to soak up sugar after meals so I don't spike big and therefore increase my insulin resistance. Muscles start feeding themselves within minutes of contraction, and take sugar out to the bloodstream to feed themselves (which prevents fat cells from getting it!) This mechanism is not broken in the Type II diabetic, unlike insulin pathway. Makes my muscles feel tremendous, strong, and my A1C is now 5.8. Because I squash my postprandial spike (hightest at 60 minutes) I am preventing further damage to my cells, which is what creates insulin resistance, so this also lowers my fasting blood levels to near normal. For me, I don't want any spike over 160, ususally aim lower.

So I'll do some stairs right before I eat if I have time, or at least within 30 minutes of eating, measure at 60 minutes, then do more stairs if my spike is high, being sure I'm less than 120 by 2 hours. Takes amazingly little time, in fact muscles become more efficient at soaking up sugar the more you do this. Walking up incline also works well.

Also great way to not regain weight ( and lose faster) -- I've not regained an ounce since last December, really weird for me!

All the Best, Kathleen

Awesome that you have found something that works for you. Make sure you continue to see your doctor and check in with your dietitian to make sure you are eating enough calories/vitmains/minerals to sustain. Awesome A1c. Keep up the good work.
